Hiring an Infidelity Investigator in Miami

Updated September 30, 2026

Most people who call about a cheating partner have never hired an investigator before, and the not-knowing makes a hard week harder. This guide follows a case from your side of the table: what to gather before you call, what the first conversation covers, how to carry yourself while investigators are working, and what to do with the report when it arrives.

Quick answer

  • Before you call: note your partner's vehicles, regular addresses and the exact days that do not add up.
  • First step: a confidential consultation; we tell you whether surveillance fits. Our service is described on infidelity investigations.
  • While it runs: act normally, report schedule changes, and never confront, snoop or follow.
  • What you get: a chronological report, the original photos and video, and testimony if needed.
  • In a divorce: Florida is no-fault, but lawful evidence can bear on alimony, money spent on an affair and, where relevant, time-sharing.

This guide covers the hiring process, not warning signs or the fine print of the law. For scenario-by-scenario answers on trackers, recordings and phones, read what a private investigator can legally do in a Florida infidelity case.

Should you call an investigator, a divorce attorney, or both?

It depends on what you will do with the answer. If you simply need to know, an investigator can be your first call. If you are considering divorce, or you share children, talk to a family-law attorney early: the attorney decides which facts are worth proving, and the investigator builds the plan and report around them.

If a divorce petition has already been filed, say so at the start. Filing changes some rules; for example, a spouse's earlier consent to location tracking is presumed revoked (s. 934.425(3), F.S.).

What should you prepare before the first consultation?

The biggest influence on how long a case takes is the information you bring. A clear description of a car or a suspicious window saves hours of watching a routine you could have described in minutes. Gather what you can:

If you have already gone through a phone, installed an app or recorded a conversation, tell your attorney before sharing it with anyone, including us.

What happens during the first consultation?

The consultation is a private conversation, not a sales pitch. We ask what you have noticed and since when, what you need at the end (an answer for yourself, a report for your lawyer, or facts about a child's care), and whether an attorney is involved. Then we tell you honestly whether surveillance is likely to help. Sometimes a narrower step is faster, such as background research on the other person, and sometimes the right advice is to wait for a clearer window.

It is also your chance to interview us. Ask any infidelity investigator:

How is the investigation planned and agreed?

Before anyone goes into the field, you should see a plan that sets out:

  1. The target windows, tied to the dates you gave us rather than open-ended watching.
  2. Staffing: how many investigators and vehicles, and why. A partner who drives across Miami-Dade traffic or into Broward may need two.
  3. What counts as documentation for your goal; peace of mind and a courtroom need different records.
  4. Check-in points, so you can extend, adjust or stop after each block.
  5. Contact rules: which number we use, whether voicemail is safe, whether texts stay neutral.

You approve the scope before the first hour is worked.

How should you act while investigators are in the field?

This part is up to you. People become careful when they sense that something at home has shifted.

Do

  • Keep your routine, your tone and your questions exactly as they were.
  • Tell us promptly about changes: a cancelled trip, a new "work dinner", a borrowed car.
  • Privately note where your partner says they were; comparing the story with the log is often what gives the report meaning.

Don't

  • Confront, hint or ask leading questions before the work is done.
  • Drive past, follow your partner or turn up where they will be. You can be recognized, and the investigator may have to break off.
  • Go through their phone, install apps or trackers, or record conversations; the infidelity legal guide explains why.
  • Contact the other person, or tell friends, relatives or social media.

If you ever feel unsafe at home, call 911 first.

What will you hear while the case runs, and what if nothing happens?

You get updates at the agreed check-in points, and then you decide what comes next. A block in which your partner went to work, the gym and home is still a documented result, and sometimes it is the answer you hoped for. If your windows produce nothing, we discuss other days, added research, or stopping. We report what we saw, not what anyone hoped to hear, and we never promise a result.

What can a Florida PI legally do for you, and what can't they?

Florida licenses investigators under Chapter 493, and private investigation is defined to include gathering information about a person's conduct, movements, whereabouts and associations (s. 493.6101, F.S.). In short:

Licensees also owe you confidentiality (s. 493.6118(1)(e), F.S.). For a car you own or share, see our GPS tracker guide.

What evidence actually helps in a Florida divorce?

Florida is a no-fault state, so you do not have to prove adultery to divorce (s. 61.052, F.S.). Facts about an affair can still matter:

Usable evidence is relevant and authenticated, which in practice means the investigator testifies to when and how each clip was captured (s. 90.901). A pattern across several dates outweighs a single photo, and illegal interceptions are excluded outright (s. 934.06, F.S.). See also surveillance evidence in a divorce.

Not legal advice. A short plain-language summary; ask your family-law attorney how it applies to you.

What is in the final report, and what should you do with it?

Read it slowly and ask us about anything unclear. Then take it to your attorney before deciding anything. Do not show it to your partner, send it to the other person or post it, and keep your copy where only you can reach it. If it raises new questions, such as who the other person really is, the next step may be focused research rather than more surveillance.

What affects the timeline and the cost?

Hiring an Infidelity Investigator: FAQ

What should I bring to my first meeting with an infidelity investigator?

Bring a recent photo of your partner, the make, model, color and plate of each vehicle they drive, their work and gym addresses, and the specific days or times that feel wrong. Add any upcoming trips, the public social media names you know, and a phone number and email your partner cannot see.

Should I speak with a divorce attorney before I hire an investigator?

If you are thinking about divorce, or you have children with your partner, yes. Your attorney decides which facts are worth proving and how the report will be used, and the investigator can then plan the work around those needs. Tell us if a petition has already been filed, because filing changes some of the rules.

How do I keep my partner from finding out while the investigation runs?

Keep your routine and your tone the same, and do not hint, confront, check their phone or follow them yourself. Use only the safe number and email you gave us, and tell no one else about the investigation, including close friends and family.

What happens if the investigator does not see anything?

A day with nothing unusual is still a documented result, and sometimes it is the reassuring answer. We review each block of coverage with you, and you decide whether to try different days, change the approach or stop. No honest investigator can predict what a person will do.

Can I follow my spouse myself to help the investigation?

Please do not. Your partner knows your car and your face, and one sighting can end the chance to document anything. Following someone repeatedly can also create legal problems of your own. Pass on any new information to us and let the investigator stay in the field.

Who gets to see the final report?

You, and anyone you choose to share it with, such as your attorney. Florida treats an unauthorized release of client information by a licensee as grounds for discipline (s. 493.6118(1)(e), F.S.). Keep your copy somewhere your partner cannot reach, and review it with your attorney before you act on it.

How can I check an infidelity investigator's license before hiring?

Ask for the agency license number, which Florida agencies must print in their advertising, and search it on the FDACS agency lookup at licensing.fdacs.gov/access/agency.aspx. Our agency license is A1800135. Individual investigators can be checked on the FDACS individual search.
